Edwards + Simpson Office
The aim of this small fit-out project was to show that you can create a contemporary workplace out of just about any space. Located on the first floor of the old Mercury newspaper building in Launceston, the space was used for a long time as a hair salon and needed several coats of white paint to cover a black and orange colour scheme. Halogen light fitting were removed, terracotta floor tiles were screeded over and a new tenancy wall built to create a glazed meeting room. The industrial aesthetic of the space is nurtured by the use of commercial racking to provide storage, furniture made from demolished materials and a monochrome palatte. A generous window sill was fabricated from smoked and limed american oak and new carpet tiles were installed in a running bond pattern that evokes boarded concrete.
