2016 Tasmanian Architecture Awards

14 July 2016

Edwards + Simpson wins at the 2016 Tasmanian Architecture Awards. The Break O'Day Community Stadium received the Award for Public Architecture at the 2016 Tasmanian Architecture Awards presented in Hobart on Saturday 25 June.

The award was accepted on behalf of the project team by design leaders Lucas Edwards and Martin Simpson, commenting "To receive this award after only three years of practice is something really remarkable. Thank you to everyone involved in making the project such a success."

The jury noted "Delivering an ambitious public project on an extremely tight budget is a challenge well met in this massive regional sporting facility, with the architects delivering a remarkably legible, strongly articulated building to house many sporting activities. Deftly employing industrial systems, the building achieves a refined sense of public place. A single datum of plywood lines the interior to provide a wainscot that encompasses all activities. Steel-profile cladding extends above this, terminating in a band of translucent cladding, which allows natural light into the vast space. This project is an admirable example of architects doing more with less to extend public ambitions."
